- A person insured under KRUS (a farmer or household member) who is the child's mother or father
- A person who adopted a child or took a child into care (art. 35a(1))
- The child's father — if the mother shortens her benefit after at least 14 weeks, or upon her death or abandonment of the child (art. 35a(2))
The amount equals the parental benefit — 1 000 zł per month (art. 35b(1)). It is the KRUS-route alternative to the parental benefit (kosiniakowe): a KRUS-insured person applies at KRUS, others at the local council — only one of the two is paid, not both. Not payable if it overlaps with maternity benefit or remuneration under the Labour Code (the ZUS route), in foster care, or without personal care of the child.
